Appreciation for Roland
“Philosophers and scientists struggle to understand cosmic consciousness, but Jim Carrey explains it with elegant simplicity to the child in all of us. We are the ocean rolling along as Roland the Wave becoming raindrop, river, cloud, and becoming the life throb of ages dancing in us this moment.”
Deepak Chopra
Author, Teacher, Physician
“Jim Carrey does for children what he does for adults, using humor and light- heartedness to reveal deeper insights. Like all great fairy tales, ‘How Roland Rolls’ adresses ultimate truth in a fanciful package. Bravo.”
Marianne Williamson

Carrey’s created a charming, fun to read, beautifully illustrated book with Roland the wave as a metaphor for the interrelatedness of everything in the world.

“Jim Carrey’s “How Roland Rolls” (with soaring illustration by Rob Nason) invites kids–of all sizes–to obliterate the illusion that we are separate. It acknowledges that the root of all that ails us–is that we have simply forgotten that we belong to each other. This gentle book invites us to stand against forgetting that. Everyone belongs. We are all connected to each other–in this vast, spacious and welcoming ocean. It is never too early, nor too late, to learn this.”

Tackling big concepts in picture storybooks can be a daunting task for even the most seasoned children’s book authors. What is refreshing about Jim Carrey’s inaugural effort is that every foldout page, every word, and every frenetic illustration in this unique book seem to flip tradition on edge. The author and illustrator simply get storytelling, and they go about it in their own special way. The resulting message is gentle and reassuring, and will stay with readers for years to come.

I just wanted to let you know the book and print arrived today! I have already read it to both of my girls and they loved it!! When asked what the book meant to them, my oldest said “We’re all a part of something bigger and we’re not alone.” Well done you guys. I just wanted to share that!
Blessings,

When the kids woke up I gave them their signed copies. The smile on their faces was like waking up on Christmas morning and we’re Jewish! . Joely sat in her room reading it out loud. Alexa in the living room doing the same. Such a sweet sound for me to hear them reading, getting lost in a world only to discover it’s really their world.
Later we had a discussion in the car about it as I asked them what they got from it. The responses were very much age appropriate. Joely at 6 was focussed on who Roland met along the way while Alexa at almost 9 was more clued in to the bigger meaning. It was a great connecting point for our family as I added in my experience and my takeaway. It was also a great teaching moment and as a parent, I am always excited to have additional confirmation about what is possible in the world and in their every day world where againstness with others and within themselves looks to take root.
I read the book and felt tears welling up in my eyes. I read so many children’s books with themes that remind kids that they’re okay, that support their feelings, etc. Roland takes the discussion deeper in a way that is rich and palatable for kids of all ages. It’s a heart opener with a universal message of oneness. Jim has really hit this one out of the park and into the hearts of anyone who reads this.
